How to Wear a Date-Night Look Like Lily Collins

Lily Collins stepped out for an event during Couture Week wearing head-to-toe pre-fall Chanel, complete with a maroon leather fringed bag that leant a more bohemian edge to an otherwise ladylike outfit. We loved the autumn colors and how she mixed the shiny paillettes of her skirt and tiny rhinestones with a simple knit sweater and leather fringe, all while wearing cool gray leather pumps. The effect is the perfect mix of offbeat and effortless, which also makes it an ideal date-night look. Click on to see the many ways you can try out this look.

Start with an unusual pencil skirt. Our favorite this season comes from Burberry and has a bit of shine. But for more than half the price, there’s Jonathan Saunders’s version, and if you want something simpler, pick a berry or plum shade from New Look.

The interesting styling Collins pulled off with this look was pairing it with an unassuming, ivory, patterned knit sweater that offset the high-fashion feeling of the rest of the outfit. Any of these similar sweaters will achieve the same feel.

If the rest of Collins’s look seemed almost dainty, her maroon, leather fringe bag was the curveball it needed to stay interesting. We found a few bags in different sizes, so choose depending on how much you need to carry from day to night.

Prim and proper, gray heels are neutral enough to complement the silver and maroon of the rest of her outfit. You can wear these all fall; they’ll go with everything.

Last but not least, we liked the touch of rhinestones at her ears. It’s the little things that often make an outfit really stand out. Go for something similar with any of these cubic-zirconia earrings.
