The Ultimate Art-Fashion Collaboration of NYFW

Misha Nonoo, known for her prim dresses and Impressionist prints, is not quite the person you picture in Red Hook. But after the designer happened to meet artist Dustin Yellin, three years ago — through her husband, Alexander Gilkes, the founder of Paddle8 — she developed an art crush. “I was immediately drawn to his work and unique perspective as well as the femininity represented in his three-dimensional glass collage series,” the designer tells the Cut. She collaborated with the artist at his studio, Pioneer Works, on abstract prints for her spring 2015 collection. “Working within another artistic medium has been a deeply academic study and formidable journey that encouraged me to articulate my own work precisely,” Nonoo says. Preview two of the prints she’ll be showing on the runway below.
