For the past year and a half, Mulberry has been that awkward entity: a house without a designer. After the departure of Emma Hill, the British brand has been in search of a new creative director, with names like Erdem, Roland Mouret, and perpetual revolving-door candidate John Galliano keeping the rumor mill humming. In October, gossip flew that the company was considering poaching Johnny Coca, Céline’s head accessories designer. The Guardian reports that Mulberry has in fact nabbed Coca, who officially starts in July. Who better to imbue the struggling label with a bit of trapeze-bag fairy dust?
