Fashion’s notorious revolving door is spinning faster and faster of late. WWD reports that Frida Giannini, who was slated to leave Gucci at the end of February, after presenting a men’s collection later this month and a women’s collection on February 25, has made an unexpectedly early exit. According to the paper’s sources, she was asked to depart on Friday, in order to hasten the path of her still-unnamed successor at the house. (Patrizio di Marco, the company’s CEO and Giannini’s fiancé, has already left the company.) We’ve reached out to Gucci for a comment and will update this when we hear back.

The question remains: Who will be ushered into the top spot at the house? Riccardo Tisci, Hedi Slimane, and Joseph Altuzarra have been some of the names that have come up in the widespread speculation, but WWD suggests it could be a smaller name, like Alessandro Michele, who is currently Gucci’s accessories chief. Another theory that’s been floated: Michele would take over in the interim until Tisci’s Givenchy contract expires in October. This is better than a soap opera.
