The 4 Things I Want to Wear From NYFW, Day 4

Fashion month usually brings over-the-top looks and accessories designed with fashion editorials in mind. But through all of it, we have to ask ourselves: What would we want to wear? Every day, the Cut brings you editors’ picks — items from the runways they’d actually buy.

1. Derek Lam’s collection was a pleasant showing of tailored separates in a strong palette of rust, petrol blue, and the preferred color for New Yorkers: black. There were many silhouettes to be desired, such as this tailored tunic over flared trousers with two-tone loafers. Simple in theory, but with details to appreciate.

2. This, courtesy of Public School, is how we should all dress for extreme cold: a gray, belted robelike coat expertly layered over sweats; a plaid wrapped around the waist; and a Lenny Kravitz–level extra-long scarf.

3. At Edun, Danielle Sherman was inspired by a visit to Morocco and the final looks were beautiful examples of travel as inspiration. I loved this coat, a mix of tailoring and textiles with just a bit of fringed detail, worn over Lurex-like separates and a leather tights-boots hybrid.

4. There were great knits and separates at Victoria Beckham, but I especially liked the dresses, like this black turtleneck option with its longer length and expertly placed cutouts.
