Not everything in the ‘80s was graphic, hard-edged, and geometric. Many of the features Wintour produced in this era have a much softer vibe. One shoot, subtitled “A Valentine’s Day Menu,” includes the items “handkerchief linen and pale-pink pearls. Warm sentiments and chilled champagne. Red roses, eyelet lace. And a serious amount of chocolates. ” (Don’t mind if we do.)
That romantic impulse is also apparent in shoots featuring sweeping shawls, rustic country looks, ruffles, lace, and even petticoats. Not to mention an antique ebony-and-ivory walking stick whose tip is shaped like a woman’s bare leg.
