Margaret Thatcher’s wedding dress — and 350 of her other closest effects, including some of her signature pussy-bow blouses — will be auctioned off at Christie’s next month. According to The Telegraph, the trove was originally offered to the Victoria & Albert Museum, which turned it down, citing the fact that it only accepts items of “outstanding aesthetic or technical quality,” as opposed to pieces with “intrinsic social historical value.” Surely the stylish cherry-red dispatch box Thatcher carried her speeches in qualifies as both of those things?
