I Took My Sunglasses to Coco Chanel’s Paris Apartment

Where else to celebrate the launch of Chanel’s spring-summer 2016 eyewear collection than 31 Rue Cambon? In the 1920s, grande dame Coco Chanel purchased the Paris apartment above the haute couture studio where she created her designs. There, the legend hosted parties for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene DietrichSalvador Dalí, and Pablo Picasso.

In this video, fashion insider Shiona Turini takes her sunglasses on a trip to the Chanel shrine. A creative consultant, stylist, freelance editor, and Cut contributor, Turini has ten years of top-level fashion experience, including launching CR Fashion Book with Carine Roitfeld and working as Cosmopolitan’s fashion market director.

Watch Turini ascend a mirrored staircase and enter Coco’s posh second-floor residence, which is lined in crimson, lushly patterned oriental screens. You’ll see a storied crystal chandelier (adorned in double-crossed C’s) and quilted pillows atop a suede couch (they inspired the brand’s quilted bags). Visit Chanel’s freshly launched e-commerce site (which includes customizable interactives that mimic the luxe real-life boutique treatment) to see the new collection’s retro tweed-weave sunglasses in gold, denim, and enamel.
