Post-Jonas, Female Senators Actually Showed Up for Their Jobs

File this one under “Women Get Stuff Done.” There was something very noticeable in the Senate Tuesday morning, reported the Washington Post: no dudes. Apparently, the snow blocked the driveways of every single male senator. Huh.

In her opening remarks, Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska (freezing cold, arctic climate — you know the one) pointed out that the faces surrounding her belonged to women:

You look around the chamber and the presiding officer is female. All of our parliamentarians are female, our floor managers are female, all of our pages are female. Now, this was not orchestrated in any way, shape or form. We came in this morning, looked around and thought, “Something is different this morning.” Different in a good way, I might add… So, perhaps it just speaks to the heartiness of women that put on your boots, and put your hat on and get out, slog through the mess that is out there.

Murkowski said she spent most of her weekend shoveling but was happy to be back at work where things are a “little less rigorous.” After all, if you’re a badass woman who can beat the winter blues, working on the Senate floor is hardly a challenge.
