Maybe you recently received a notice from your cable company about outages in your service this week. That’s certainly not a bad way to describe Tuesday’s total solar eclipse: an outage, except not just with your TV. You can expect interruptions in the key areas of your life, depending on how this eclipse lands either in your personal astrological chart, if you know it, or your sun sign.

However, these eclipse-spurred interruptions might be more accurately described as a rebooting of your cosmic hard drive. They reset problem areas while simultaneously clearing space for new things to happen. After all, solar eclipses are still new moons, so they initiate fresh actions and commitments. You have to surrender what’s no longer useful to get where you do want to go. This solar eclipse, unlike the one we had in September, will make as many karmic deposits as withdrawals. It could manifest, for example, as getting your tax refund on the same day as you have drop $100 for a speeding ticket.

If you want it all without losing anything, then this eclipse is likely going to be rough for you. Somehow, eclipses surface those “shit happens” moments. Sometimes that’s good, other times it’s bad. However, since it’s a new moon, you can scrape your heel on some grass to clean up and keep on strutting to where you want to go.

The planetary weather report: Use these guidelines to unlock the stars, not to be locked down by them.

While the sun and moon come together to make an eclipse on Tuesday, the exuberant sun and sprawling Jupiter couldn’t be more at odds with each other. Like the eclipse, there’s good and bad with that. You likely feel confident to handle whatever this eclipse can sling at you. The unfortunate news, however, is that you’re just as likely to confuse confidence and an upbeat attitude for the wherewithal you need to see you through. Good old common sense, fact-checking, and keeping your nose to the grindstone rather than in the air will help a lot. If you can balance all of that, then you’re bound to take this eclipse in stride.

Read on for your sign’s Sky Code.

Pisces (February 19th to March 20th)

Since the solar eclipse is in your sign, you’re more prone to feel a greater power-outage than most folks. The greatest temptation will be to overstretch your resources during this time of having less. Be smart about it by sticking to activities that inspire you rather than ones that require loads of detailed concentration. You have tons of imaginative power for the weekend with the line-up between lively Mercury and visionary Neptune. You can use it actively, to write poetry or update your Tumblr, or passively, to binge-watch a favorite series until you’re numb.

Aries (March 21st to April 19th)

Often when people talk about karma, they make it sound like it always has to be a bad thing. This particular solar eclipse might surface a lot of your karma, but it may turn up with a lot of the good for what you do and have done. This isn’t time to rest on your laurels, however. Use the positive feedback to amplify more of the good you’ve been doing and create more plans for the positive things you want to bring into the world. After all, if you don’t bring the fire first, who will?

Taurus (April 20th to May 21st)

Having to set others straight after they’ve rubbed you the wrong way will probably inspire you to think deeper about who’s in your inner circle. However, it’s not all someone else’s fault. This solar eclipse will also draw you to reflect on those qualities that don’t allow you to always be the great friend you can be. Perhaps you’re too generous, and you assume there’s a level of reciprocity before there’s any clear-cut evidence. You have to remember to cultivate relationships like you tend a garden — with observation and the wisdom to know what to give and when. You can’t rely on just hopes and wishes.

Gemini  (May 21st to June 20th)

There’s a lot of galvanizing power for your career in Tuesday’s solar eclipse. However, you might have to let go a piece of a dream that’s more a vainglorious hope than anything achievable. This could be a bitter pill to swallow, so it’s okay if you want to take your time. But don’t mourn for too long. You can tap into new and more promising professional aspirations over the weekend. Let your imagination roam uncensored since you can pare away the useless parts later.

Cancer (June 21st to July 21st)

You might be tempted to show off what you know this week, but stick to a solid, grounded presentation. With this solar eclipse, you’re bound to come off as knowledgeable without trying too hard. However, if you’re insecure, you will either overstate your case or you’ll sound scatterbrained and unfocused. Your insecurity might stem from the feeling that true knowledge of a subject should feel like a snug glove. Mastery can’t be too comfortable, however, because it won’t leave room for you to grow. Don’t rush doing your best to become the best.

Leo (July 22nd to August 21st)

Tuesday’s solar eclipse could punch up drama in your life. Your task is to not let your emotions take you on too much of a ride. However, you’ll be making a mistake if you choose to be regally impassive rather than let some of your feelings show. You don’t have to cry a river when you just can say you’re hurt by something someone’s said or done. The vulnerability will pay off, ultimately. You won’t have to keep up a draining psychic mask to shield your true feelings.

Virgo (August 22nd to September 21st)

Suddenly you’re in a world of lost souls, when this solar eclipse hits on Tuesday. Don’t be surprised if loved ones who had seemed the epitome of strength previously call on you for support. You have your own needs, of course, but your heart may spill out to others before you even have a chance to say no. You can’t help everyone, so you are going to have to draw the line with folks at some point. Otherwise, you might be calling on others soon to help you.

Libra (September 22nd to October 21st)

You’re drawn toward more rest and self-care during this week’s solar eclipse. As one of my high school teachers said, “Sometimes you have to use your sick days when you’re well.” Don’t feel guilty about putting others on pause, because you have to take care of you first. (Just don’t tell them your horoscope told you so, okay?) Some folks might try to guilt-trip you. However, be strong and compassionate, recognizing that certain people are too scared to look after themselves.

Scorpio (October 22nd to November 21st)

Your all-or-nothing sensibility usually serves you well in your pursuit of excellence. However, with this solar eclipse, that kind of thinking will only hurt you. It might feel like you’re surrendering a deeply ingrained principle if you don’t follow through on your convictions, but you don’t have to feel like a sellout to change your approach to life. Look very carefully at what you’ll be receiving in exchange for any ultimatums you deliver. Is it really worth the fuss and drama?

Sagittarius (November 22nd to December 21st)

Although it’s not officially spring, it might feel that way for you. You have goals in mind and no one can get in your way — except you. This solar eclipse is sending a very clear message that you need to stay grounded, as it happens in the area of the heavens that brings you down to earth or home. You might fight against this gravitational pull by reaching high for as much as your eyes can see. However, picking up everything your hands can grab might rob you of selecting the one opportunity you really want and need now.

Capricorn (December 22nd to January 20th)

Pour your heart into communicating with someone important to you. Considering you’re a sign of old-school Saturn, you might think about writing a letter longhand and mailing it, rather than sending an electronic missive. If you’re handwriting has deteriorated enough to shame even a doctor, then speaking your mind in person in an intimate setting, or via video chat, would suffice. Email or texting is riskier because those pixels and fonts can mask your own personal style. The true goal here is to create intimacy.

Aquarius (January 21st to February 18th)

The solar eclipse on Tuesday brings its renewing yet taxing powers in the finance sector of the heavens for you. You might balk about the taxing part, as we’re already in tax season, but we can’t all benefit if we don’t pitch in our individual shares. You might feel more than a pinch when it comes time for you to settle up, but stay generous in spirit. There’s more money coming your way. Sometimes you have to happily give money to make it.
