If Goop were to go and do the most Goop thing ever, what would that thing be? If your answer is “hunt for the perfect natural lube,” you’d be right on the money.

Goop took a note from Lily Tomlin’s hippie-dippie character (read: actually me) in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie and her all-natural yam lube and went on a journey to find a similar product.

Okay, so the lube Goop found doesn’t involve yams, but it does involve green tea. Now, there is nothing wrong with all-natural lubricant (paraben-free, yay!). But first, you have to wrap your head around the fact that “green tea” and “lube” are just chillin’ in the same sentence there.

The lube Goop is promoting and selling online is called Sliquid Organics Natural and features green tea, aloe, and extracts of hibiscus. There’s just really nothing sexy about it — or yams, for that matter.

But, as Goop went on to discover in a Q&A with Dr. Maggie Ney, director of the Women’s Clinic at the Akasha Center in Santa Monica, lubricants with toxins and parabens are extremely unhealthy for women:

“Using lubricants with toxic ingredients has an effect on our reproductive system, as the vagina and anus are highly permeable areas and anything that is applied topically can be absorbed into the body. Parabens are a very common preservative in most cosmetics (moisturizers, face wash, lotions) that are used to prevent bacterial overgrowth. The problem is that parabens are endocrine disruptors, which means that they have an estrogenic effect in the body—they bind to the same cell receptors as our own estrogen but they interfere with our normal, rhythmic, hormonal process. Exposure to parabens has been associated with cancer and reproductive health issues and hormone imbalances like fibroids, endometriosis, infertility, and PMS.

The ingredients in natural lube don’t really sound all that sexy, but neither does any of that stuff above. Might want to take a second glance at the bottle that only boasts three ingredients.
