Among the holy trinity of teen mall stores that begin with A and sell distressed denim (Abercrombie, American Eagle, Aeropostale), Aeropostale has proven to be the weakest. The chain officially filed for chapter-11 bankruptcy today after a long pattern of steadily declining sales.
This comes just one month after other youthful crop-top purveyor PacSun did the same thing, which raises the question … where do teens shop anymore? Are they just ordering questionable clothes from foreign knock-off websites and using them to make “expectation vs. reality” memes? Are they only interested in purchasing things you have to obsessively refresh your browser to obtain? Probably.
