If getting a pure runner’s high just isn’t doing it for you, there’s a new gym opening up that will give members a chance to get a literal high while working on their fitness.
Power Plant Fitness, based in San Francisco, will be marijuana-friendly — allowing edibles and cloud vapes — and touts itself as the first of its kind. (Though with today’s ubiquitous blossoming weed culture, it was really only a matter of time before this happened.)
Jim McAlpine, a co-founder of Power Plant Fitness, has plenty of experience in the field of combining weed and fitness already: He’s behind 420 Games, “a series of active lifestyle events [that] works to break down the stereotypes that have been built up during the era of cannabis prohibition.”
McAlpine told TechInsider that all new gym members will first take a “cannabis performance assessment” before they can proceed to work out. And lest you think Power Plant Fitness is just a place to hang out and get baked, McAlpine has said, “It won’t be a place to get high and just screw around. We are focused on the athletic side, not the cannabis side.”
Though smoking weed and exercise do seem like a counterintuitive pair, it makes perfect sense in a way: Potheads and exercise fanatics are both some of the most vocal evangelists of their chosen hobby. But I still give it about four days before someone has a weed freakout on the elliptical.
