The Texas trio’s MMXVI world tour reached U.S. soil on Wednesday, with a show in Cincinnati, OH, that let everyone know just how they feel about the upcoming election. Which is, apparently, not so bullish on the Republican ticket!
A video montage during their performance of “Goodbye Earl,” a song from their 1999 album Fly about two friends who murder an abusive husband, featured a large photo of Donald Trump being vandalized with goat horns and an Anton LaVey–style goatee.
This isn’t the first time members of the group have spoken out about conservative politics in a way that inflames country music fans. Way back in 2003, in the weeks before the U.S.’s invasion of Iraq, singer Natalie Maines told a London audience, “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”
Will taking aim at Trump anger their fan base — or country music lovers in general — as much as criticizing George W. Bush did way back then? The U.S. leg of the tour runs until October, with Canadian dates to follow, so expect to hear more about this tour in the coming months. Who knows? Maybe Hillary Clinton will want to experience her girl-power playlist in person.
