Megan Fox Says Men in Hollywood Always Try to Cast Her As the ‘Interesting Stripper’ or ‘Funny Escort’

Megan Fox hasn’t been around in films much these days — she won’t deny that. She tells the New York Times she’s been pretty exclusive to action stuff; her latest role is in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, premiering June 3. But with these roles often come the stock characters Hollywood loves to manufacture.

Fox says there just isn’t a lot of variety in the roles written for women in these films, and there’s not much she can do about it:

“I don’t get a whole lot of say in terms of character development on movies like these. It’s not like I’m in there helping them write the script saying, April should do this, because this is what a real feminist would do.’ In terms of what’s available for women to play in general in Hollywood, it’s pretty scarce.”

And, unsurprisingly, the patterns are pretty easy to follow:

“You have these stereotypes that still dominate films: the nag, the trophy, the escort … I haven’t been sent a nag script yet, but I do get plenty of, like, ‘interesting stripper.’ Or, ‘She’s super funny, but she’s also an escort, but that’s what makes it funny!’”

Huh, Hollywood. Not quite getting the joke.
