Gia Coppola, Just Doing What Coppolas Do Best

Photographer and filmmaker Gia Coppola has translated her effortless style into a laid-back summer collection for Everlane.

Coppola told Women’s Wear Daily, “I like to be comfortable and wanted something my friends and I could wear every day,” later adding, “Everlane always felt right, because I liked their message; they have an appreciation for textiles and fabrics but an accessible price point.”

The summer capsule collection features striped cotton T-shirts, boyish shorts, mini dresses, and rompers, all of which are reasonably priced and super comfy. This is Coppola’s first time as a designer, but she’s no stranger to fashion; she’s directed short films for Zac Posen, Gucci, Rodarte, Wren, and Opening Ceremony, for starters, as well as photographing the Urban Outfitters spring 2014 lookbook.

Coppola stays busy. She made her feature-length directorial debut in 2014 with Palo Alto, starring James Franco and Emma Roberts; she adapted the screenplay from Franco’s book of the same name. The movie was an indie hit that made Coppola an up-and-coming director to watch. Now she’s got another delicious-sounding project in the works, The Secret Life of the Lonely Doll, based on the 2013 book by Jean Nathan about the strange life of children’s-book author Dare Wright. Naomi Watts and Jessica Lange are attached to star.
