Hidden Figures Trailer: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe Play NASA Mathmaticians in the ’60s

In a movie that is bound to be inspiring for women, African-Americans, math nerds, and people who generally have hearts, Hidden Figures tells the real -ife story of three mathematicians whose work was instrumental for launching John Glenn into orbit in 1962.  The brilliant NASA whizzes,  Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer), and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), bucked both gender and racial prejudices to accomplish their portion of the mission.

In an interview earlier this summer, Monáe said about her role, “It is so important, that we as women, African-American women, tell our stories. These three women opened doors for us and literally helped change the world.” The film hits theaters January 13, 2017.
