Anthony Weiner’s Latest Scandal Gave Stephen Colbert Some Great Comedy Material for the Late Show

Anthony Weiner is in the news again for shenanigans he’s previously been in the news for. Except this time, he crossed the line by sexting photos that included his son sleeping next to him. Wife Huma Abedin has finally had enough after previously standing by her man and announced on Monday the two are separating.

All of which — while tragic in that it involves the unraveling of a family — is at least also providing some good fodder for late-night jokes. On Monday night, Stephen Colbert didn’t hesitate to, ahem, roast Weiner on the Late Show. Colbert began his segment by informing the audience that August is known for being a notoriously slow news month. So much so, that it’s difficult to find fresh content for the show.

Thanks to Weiner, though, Colbert says he didn’t have to try very hard. “Fortunately, something popped up: Anthony Weiner,” Colbert said. “I just want to extend my thanks to him for rising to the occasion with this truly rock-solid story.” Then, just to be clear, he added with a smile, “Boner.”

Weiner was on the Late Show a month earlier, offering up some political commentary, and he even poked fun at his own past transgressions. This time around, though, Colbert said his “heart goes out to Abedin.”

“You know what they say: Fool me once, shame on you,” Colbert said. “Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, dammit, Anthony, just keep it in your pants until after the election!”
