A woman who was “wearing traditional Muslim garb” had her shirt lit on fire by a passerby on Saturday, September 10, reports the New York Daily News. The 36-year-old Scottish tourist was window-shopping outside the Valentino store on Fifth Avenue near 55th Street at around 9 p.m. when “she saw [the suspect] pull a lighter away and walk away. He doesn’t say anything,” said a police source.

The woman was able to put the flames out immediately, and though the suspect managed to get away, the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the crime.

This comes just days after a Brooklyn woman was arrested for attacking two Muslim women, trying to rip their veils off, and allegedly screaming “Get the f*ck out of America, bitches, you don’t belong here!”
