Mom Casually Breast-Pumps While Running a Half-Marathon

While many of us struggle to run two miles without dry-heaving, a new mom in Utah somehow managed to pump breast milk while running a half-marathon.

Anna Young, a former competitive runner, had just given birth to her first child five months before she was set to run the REVEL Big Cottonwood Half Marathon in Salt Lake City on September 10. Young had planned on taking a break during the race to pump, but after running eight miles, she decided to just keep on going — and pump breast milk at the same time.

Young shared an image of herself pumping during the race to the Occupy Breastfeeding Facebook page. The new mom wrote that she had to leave the house at 4:30 a.m. for the 6:45 a.m. half-marathon.

“I nursed my daughter before I left my house, pumped after running the first [eight] miles and nursed her after I made it past the finish line,” Young wrote. She added that groups like Occupy Breastfeeding helped motivate her to figure out a way to run the race while taking care of her daughter.

Young’s feat is surely impressive, but if other new moms don’t want to breastfeed while running 13.1 miles, that’s more than okay, too.
