Vetements Taps Margiela Alum

It’s time for another round of fashion musical chairs — except this time no one is getting fired. Rather, according to WWD, Vetements will be adding Margiela alum Nina Nitsche to their team of creatives.

Nitsche previously served as first assistant within the Margiela house for over 20 years, but now she will be working alongside fashion golden boy Demna Gvasalia, and Gvasalia’s brother Guram, as the collection director of Vetements. The new role will make Nitsche a lead within the design team overseeing the production of future collections; however, she will still be reporting to Demna. Given the constant comparisons between Margiela and Vetements by fashion insiders, the move makes sense, but it’s also a sign that the little label that could is growing up into a true powerhouse.

“Now it’s becoming adult,” Vetements founder Demna Gvasalia said in a statement.
