The Critics’ Choice Awards kicked off red-carpet season last night with a glittering array of sheer (see: Bella Thorne) and embellished black gowns. Nicole Kidman and Emma Stone wore black cutout dresses, while Kerry Washington chose a star-printed sheer mini by Elie Saab.
Others chose more daring, colorful designs. Janelle Monáe appeared in the night’s most striking look — a cascading checkerboard dress, choker, and Princess Leia buns. Viola Davis accepted the #SeeHer Award in a blue Michael Kors Collection gown. Sarah Paulson wore a pearl-encrusted dress by Vera Wang.
