42 Things on Sale You’ll Actually Want to Buy: From Mara Hoffman to Patagonia

You may have noticed some posts from our friends at the Strategist on the Cut. They’ll be dropping in every now and again, sharing their expertise on the basics you don’t have time to research and the weird and wonderful things you don’t yet know you need.

Memorial Day has come and gone, but many of the sales are still going strong — and there are even some new ones that’ve started. We combed through the sales bins and found lots of summery stock, as well as quite a few good Father’s Day gifts.

This, Strategist writer Katy Schneider’s favorite white T-shirt, meets all her criteria for what a good white T-shirt should be: “I like them boxy, very (very) slightly cropped, and a bit short at the arm.”

What separates this soft cotton striped sweater from the sea of striped cotton sweaters out there is the pocket with vertical (!) stripes.

These (very on-sale) Veja sneakers are also available with a navy V.

These are maybe the perfect pair of hoop earrings; not too thin, not too thick, not too big, not too small.

Another excellent pair of hoops, made from marbled acrylic.

Speaking of acrylic, how about this price for a Cult Gaia bag?

This bikini is very 1950s vinyl tablecloth — but in a good way.

We can’t resist anything from Moda Operandi that’s tagged as “Lauren’s Closet,” meaning Lauren Santo Domingo herself (ostensibly) owns it.

Yes, we’re going straight from a “Lauren’s Closet” pick to a slouchy cotton V-neck sweater from Walmart. We’re all about a high-low moment at the Strategist. This top is from Lord & Taylor’s house line and is available in a rainbow of colors.

These work-y petite pants have a nice flare to them and are machine washable.

It was one Alison Freer who tipped us off to the mumsy joys of Miss Elaine housecoats.

We’ve always dreamed of having a bedroom big enough to to handle a bench at the foot of the bed, so if you have the space, take advantage!

Just a small cherry wall light that’ll add a little pep to the place.

It’s a small thing, but we like how the label on these Superga sneakers is all-white — usually the “S” is red.

Not much to see here, just some Grateful Dead Chaco sandals!!!

We’ve had our eye on these Isabel Marant espadrilles for a while, and they’re (finally) a little bit cheaper.

More of a “going out” espadrille, from Soludos.

Some stretchy (60 percent off) jeans from L.A.-based husband-wife design duo James and Seun Lim.

What’s nice about this miniskirt is that, come fall, you can wear it with tights.

Lots of Coach bags are still 50 percent off, including this everyday Edie shoulder bag, crafted from pebbled leather, and in a very on-trend shade of oxblood.

Lululemon’s famous “Wonder Unders” leggings, but in a groovy shibori pattern.

The price-tag made us do a double take, and then we were very taken with the excellent reviews; many note how flattering it is, and how it looks great both tucked and untucked.

For upcoming sultry summer days: a cross-back tank dress made from a breathable cotton-linen blend.

Stuff from Goop’s Memorial Day sale has gotten even cheaper. While the bottoms of this Solid & Striped bikini top are sold out, you could really pair this with any ol’ black bottoms.

This floral cotton (and machine-washable) jumpsuit is, according to Goop, “a classic utility boiler suit, but a thousand times chicer.”

This right here is a summer picnic dress if we’ve ever seen one. Also, the pockets are great.

A few things we missed from our first run through the Mr Porter sale — many of which would make good Father’s Day gifts. First up, this very basic (very breathable) cotton James Perse button down.

It’s hard to go wrong with a Smythson cardholder.

Less of a gift, more of a men’s wardrobe staple.

Another leopard offering, this one from Diane von Furstenberg, and in the form of a wrap dress.

A good work-appropriate cover-up from size-inclusive line Eloquii to keep in the office for when the air conditioner’s on full blast.

Also from Eloquii: A button-adorned LBJ.

We just cannot ignore a polka-dotted dress with a mock-neck.

Rains rain jackets are cheaper than those from Stutterheim, but equally Fashion Crowd-approved.

It ain’t cheap, but we’re kind of obsessed with this kooky (yet elegant) one-piece bathing suit from Baserange.

Keep this two-piece acrylic table set from Wayfair together, or separate them if you prefer.

This is no regular floral-strewn skirt. It’s a pixillated floral-strewn skirt, which makes it a little less dainty. (Note: as with everything on sale at Anthropologie at the moment, it’s an extra 25 percent off.)

This Patagonia backpack is meant for commuters and hikers alike; it has a padded laptop sleeve, as well as a million adjustable straps and pockets.

Over at Amazon, for today (Friday) only, this very easy to operate Nespresso espresso machine is a whopping 43 percent off.

Sur La Table’s having a flatware sale, where a bunch of sets are 30 percent off. We like the “smooth lines and simplicity” of this 42-piecer.
