There are many reasons to be proud of Jennifer Lopez. Tonight, she’s being honored with the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s Fashion Icon Award, her nuptials have been blessed by the Obamas, and she invented the high ponytail. All good things. But you can also be proud of the fact that she wore an elastic waistband and a crop top to accept her award.
In some ways the custom Ralph Lauren outfit is classic J.Lo. It’s a bold color (tangerine, which is having a moment) and shows off her body in an unexpected way. She’s slightly pushing the sartorial envelope by wearing a drawstring skirt with a train, a long-sleeve turtleneck crop top, and a high ponytail. Of course, it only looks like she just threw it on — it’s embellished with 43,200 crystals.
Her date, fiancé Alex Rodriguez, posted a photo of the two of them in the limo before they got onto the red carpet. He wrote, “There are icons … but there is only one Jennifer Lopez, ladies and gentlemen.” Glad to see A-Rod is doing the work as a dedicated Instagram boyfriend to the aforementioned icon.
