Gwyneth Paltrow has earned a reputation for forgetting the existence of several of her Marvel co-stars, as well as not knowing which movies in the superhero franchise she’s even starred in. Turns out, Paltrow has a pretty good excuse for her puzzling, filmography-related amnesia, and it’s shockingly something that some of us can probably relate to: There are simply too many Marvel movies to keep track of, and the poor woman got confused!

In an interview with Elle, Paltrow talked about her multiple faux pas, and also how she wasn’t aware that it was a much-discussed topic on the internet. “I never read stuff,” she said (which we already knew). “But it is confusing because there are so many Marvel movies, and to be honest, I haven’t seen very many of them. It’s really stupid and I’m sorry, but I’m a 47-year-old mother.”

Listen, I know we’ve been clowning Goop all this time, but when she puts it that way, how can I not understand? She’s busy! It’s like when people can’t believe I haven’t seen an episode of Game of Thrones or Mad Men in my life. I have no time to meal prep or wash my makeup brushes, how the hell am I going to catch up on years and years of episodes? (Don’t worry, I have started watching Succession before it gets too late for me.) Then again, Ms. Paltrow, I would NOT forget Sebastian Stan …

For the record, there are currently 23 films in the MCU, and Paltrow has starred in seven of them. At least she won’t have to worry about trying to keep track of any additional Marvel movies or co-stars — Paltrow told Variety that she would be retiring her Pepper Potts character after Avengers: Endgame, which came out in theaters this past April.
