Is there anything more satisfying than landing a perfectly crafted insult? Perhaps a good question to ask Gigi Hadid, who may have just succeeded in making Jake Paul, a notoriously shameless YouTuber, feel shame for the first time … ever?
It’s unclear what exactly ignited this feud, but it appears to have begun on Saturday night when Jake and Zayn Malik — Gigi’s on-again, off-again boyfriend — were both in Las Vegas for some major fight between two very large men in a boxing ring. And the professionals fighter weren’t the only ones to go at it: Paul and Zayn seem to have had a tense encounter, which compelled Paul to start some shit on Twitter.
“Almost had to clap up zane from 1 direction because he is a little guy and has an attitude and basically told me to fuck off for no reason when I was being nice to him….” Jake tweeted, before insulting Zayn further by misspelling his name a second time. “Zane ik you’re reading this… stop being angry cause u came home alone to ur big ass hotel room hahaha.”
And then, Gigi entered the ring to defend her man with an insult so effective it ought to be taught in a master class: “Lol cause he doesn’t care to hang w you and your embarrassing crew of YouTube groupies ..? Home alone with his best friends like a respectful king cause he has me, sweetie,” she wrote. “Unbothered by your irrelevant ugly ass. Go to bed …”
Let’s quickly dissect this stunning prose. The first sentence is solid, a classic way to respond to an attack. But the insult really starts to move into iconic territory in the second half of the tweet: there’s the reminder that Zayn has Gigi, a hot model girlfriend, and her reference to Zayn as a “respectful king.” Then, she calls Jake an “irrelevant ugly ass,” which speaks for himself. And finally, she hits him with a maternalistic “go to bed” — the perfect final blow. It’s hard to imagine how someone could recover from this.
Gigi’s response appears to have pierced Jake so deeply, he deleted his offending tweet — a truly unexpected move for a man seemingly incapable of feeling shame. He later tweeted about how “someone needs to take [his] phone when [he’s] drunk because [he’s] a fucking idiot.”
Perhaps Zayn should be the one calling Gigi “his king.”
