Throughout the week, the buyers from Kirna Zabête, Barneys, and Intermix will tell us which runway looks they plan on stocking. Today, Sarah Easley, co-owner of Kirna Zabête, shares her picks from the recent collections.

Derek Lam

What I liked about Derek’s collection is that it was very cool, very real. There were a lot of good day pieces. He did a great job. The mood in fashion right now is not wearing head-to-toe one designer. Years ago, Phoebe Philo at Chloé nailed it: You could wear a Chloé bag, jacket, pants. Derek Lam did that this season. You wanted the whole look. And I was really happy to see some strong daywear. It’s easy to just do party dresses for spring or the easy little coat. He went more complex with that, and it was very strong. (Browse the collection.)

Peter Som

The best part of his collection was the gowns. One gown had a beautiful bow and a burgundy-velvet jeweled belt. The dress was just light as a feather with a train and a gathered low back. Tons of fabric — it could double as a parachute. Another gown had ruffled straps, and that worked beautifully. The whole collection was pretty and strong, but not wimpy. (Browse the collection.)

Thakoon was very polished. He always puts a signature look: Thakoon’s thing is layers of petals, which look like rose petals. This year he did a mille-feuille collection, and the clothes were layered everywhere. It was very rich, very detailed. (Browse the collection.)
