Why did only one
Rodarte girl show up to last night’s Milk Studios party in honor of their
Glamour magazine feature as part of “Fashion’s New Guard”? “They had an ‘emergency’ with their line, which they’re showing on Thursday,” an insider told us. Meaning, they’re not done. In fact, they’re so far from being done that Laura Mulleavy opted to stay home in L.A. to sew furiously — Rodarte is known for hand-stitching and impeccable construction — while her sister and co-designer Kate popped in to New York for only a few hours before rushing back across the continent.
There were five other featured designers at the party, including Thread Social, Vena Cava, Jenni Kayne, Rachel Roy, and Sari Gueron, who brought friend Anna Paquin. Roy, too, seemed on edge. Asked by a partygoer if husband Damon Dash was her muse, she snapped, “Of course he’s not my muse! I don’t design my clothes for him.”
All six designers made cute limited edition T-shirts, by the way, which are being sold for charity on Shopbop.com.
