Throughout the week, buyers from Bergdorf Goodman, Bird, Intermix, and Jeffrey New York will tell us which runway looks they plan to snatch up for fall. These are the first picks from Sari Sloane, VP of fashion merchandising at Intermix. She’s enjoying fall’s dark colors, and her favorites include Yigal Azrouel, Erin Fetherston, Diane von Furstenberg, and more.
So far, the fall shows have been very strong with a dark and sophisticated influence. There was a dominance of black and charcoal with rich gem colors, and an emphasis on knitwear, as seen in multicolored bouclé at Matthew Williamson, oversize sweaters over dresses at Diane von Furstenberg, and deconstructed knits at Yigal.
Yigal Azrouël
Yigal did a cool, downtown collection filled with urban clothes for fashionable young women to wear every day. My favorite part was the floor-length jersey dresses layered with deconstructed T-shirts. Look No. 8 (above) was my favorite.

Erin Fetherston
This show had an unexpected start with Zooey Deschanel singing “Dream a Little Dream” before a collection of feminine dresses made their way down the runway. The pieces were ladylike and muted — created for the young Madison Avenue socialite’s wardrobe.

Diane von Furstenberg
Diane’s collection was all about evening with sophisticated but wearable pieces in black, red, and metallics. The silhouettes were sexy and practical; the looks were feminine but powerful. Look No. 43 (above) was my favorite.

Luella Bartley
Luella’s show was her signature combination of English punk and British countryside. The runway was filled with hunting style and party dresses in bright, bold colors like fuchsia, aqua, purple, and mustard.

Matthew Williamson
Dresses and knitwear were very strong in this seventies-inspired collection. Red and purple were the dominant colors for dresses while bouclé, black, and gold were seen throughout the knits. His signature prints and embellishments continued to be strong. Look No. 21 (above) was my favorite.
