Thierry Mugler will revive its women’s ready-to-wear collection for spring. The label was shuttered in 2003 after consumers lost interest in it. But next week the house will present the resuscitated line — Thierry Mugler Edition — in its Paris showroom.
You probably know more than you think about Thierry Mugler. Several of his pieces are showcased in the Costume Institute’s “Superheroes” exhibit. In fact, Thierry Mugler’s perfume and fashion divisions president, Joel Palix, told WWD that the Mugler gowns worn on the red carpet to the Met gala, like Naomi Watts’s, helped revive interest in the label.
Mugler himself did not design the line this time around, though. (These days he concentrates on Thierry Mugler beauty products, which account for 80 percent of the house’s sales.) Rosemary Rodriguez, the line’s artistic director, designed it, inspired by archive Thierry Mugler pieces, which Mugler himself helped her pick. She revisited his famous sharp-edge suits and his denim couture for the line.
If the Mugler pieces at the “Superheroes” exhibit weren’t enough for you, Palix said the house is planning a retrospective for next year at an undisclosed, “amazing” museum somewhere outside of Europe. God, we hope it’s here.
