We suppose it was only a matter of time before Solange Knowles did something that forced the world for at least a moment to focus its attention on her instead of her big sister Beyoncé. So here goes (but Beyoncé, you will always be our number one): Armani has just announced Solange is the new “ambassador” for Armani jeans, the label’s younger diffusion line. We assume that means she’ll model the jeans in an ad campaign since last time we checked denim products don’t have complicated international relationships that need to be delicately maintained.
Solange has been hitting up the red carpet with her sister for some time now, but since she was with Beyoncé, no one really cared what she did all day aside from stand next to Beyoncé. But now that she’s ridden her sister’s fame train all the way to Armani campaign-dom (Beyoncé signed on as the face of Armani’s Diamonds fragrance last year) and she’s got Giorgio in her court, that could change. The big G tells British Vogue:
“Armani Jeans expresses my vision of a young, independent, casual lifestyle with a strong and cool, fashion sensibility. Solange epitomises this style perfectly and brings to it that swing so evident in her new single, I Decided.”
Check out that reciprocal back-scratching action! People might not pay attention to what Solange says, but they do pay attention to what Armani says, so now Solange’s second album (yes, second) should be on the radar of fashion people everywhere. Very clever, Solange. Very clever.
