Fashion designers must get tired of doing the same thing every day. Sketching and sewing and hanging with models. God, how tiresome it must get! Fashion photographer Nick Knight knows this all too well, which is maybe why he’s giving them a shot to shake things up. For his latest project, Future Tense, he’s letting designers direct their own short films, between 30 seconds and three minutes long. The subject: their clothes and label. It’s like a music video minus the scantily clad ladies on top of cars. Our favorite L.A. gals, Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte have already signed up, as have Brit designers Peter Jensen and Todd Lynn, and accessories man Pierre Hardy. It’s all being masterminded by SHOWstudio, Knight’s online fashion broadcasting company, which is “committed to unveiling the entire process of creativity to a highly fashion literate audience,” in association with Hywel Davie’s new book, 100 New Fashion Designers.
The films will be broadcast on SHOWstudio.com between August 18 and September 9, along with a Q&A with each designer involved. And if you find yourself across the pond during London Fashion Week, pop by (that’s what they do over there, right?
