Virginia Smith Thinks Designers Really Need to Get Over Sharing Models

As we reported earlier, the nearly one-hour delay preceding Thakoon’s show on Monday had nothing to do with Kanye West and everything to do with models who couldn’t get from their previous booking to the show’s Chelsea venue on time. Is it worth the extra wait to secure the most in-demand catwalkers? Vogue fashion market and accessories editor Virginia Smith doesn’t think so. “In every city, everyone sort of wants that main group of girls,” she told us yesterday before the Carlos Miele show, which did start more or less on time. “But I think it’s really difficult to share models when it’s the show right before yours — unless you’re showing in the tents, both of you. I sort of feel like [designers] should just cut their losses and find another girl. Is it really worth keeping people waiting so long? I’m not so sure it is.”
