Alexander Wang Wins CFDA/‘Vogue’ Fashion Fund

Last night Alexander Wang won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. That means he gets $200,000 to grow his business and a year of mentoring. The selection committee this year included CFDA president Diane Von Furstenberg, Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Sally Singer, Patrick Robinson from the Gap, and Julie Gilhart from Barneys. When we saw Anna at the Alexander Wang show in September, she looked mighty unimpressed, barely turning her head to look at the clothes. Perhaps she just had a stiff neck?

Runners-up were Vena Cava designers Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai and Albertus Quartus designer Albertus Q. Swanepoel. They’ll each receive $50,000 and a business mentor. Past top-prize winners include Rogan in 2007, Doo-Ri Chung in 2006, Trovata in 2005, and Proenza Schouler in 2004. Past runners-up include 3.1 phillip lim, Philip Crangi Jewelry, Rodarte, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Thom Browne, Cloak, and Habitual. So this prize is a sign of big things to come. Congrats, Alex!
