Anna Wintour Approves of Jason Wu

We expected the Jason Wu show to have Marc Jacobs’s levels of crowdedness. But the atmosphere at Exit Art was relaxed and the standing section mostly empty and pleasantly roomy. Wu attracted a good editor attendance, including Kate Lanphear from Elle, Hamish Bowles from Vogue, and Fashion Week’s ultimate guest: Anna Wintour. She stomped in with her security detail promptly at 1 p.m. and went immediately backstage. Having wrapped up business back there (bathroom break? Bob touch-up? Girl-talk with Wu?), she emerged a few minutes later and plopped down next to Hamish in the front row. It seemed about 70 percent of guests craned to get a snapshot of her on their cell phones. Olivia Palermo came in minutes before the show started, strolling down the empty runway sans City camera. Playing hookie from DVF so close to the Sunday show? Tsk tsk. Does she think the PR department runs itself?

After Palermo sat down, we heard a gaggle of models cheer backstage. Jourdan Dunn opened the show in a gray suit. The lovely printed, full-skirted dresses that followed looked like pieces Michelle Obama would wear (she wasn’t at the show, sadly). Wu also showed a number of chiffon gowns in shades of gray, nude, violet, and ivory. Chanel Iman wore a bright-fuchsia-and-red cocktail dress with black beading on the bodice. Anna had a faint smile on her face throughout the show, clapping and grinning once Wu took his bow. She approves!
