We feared Lauren Conrad would never disappear. That after The Hills ended she’d embark on a Paris Hilton–esque career path of making clothes and fragrances, posing for FHM bikini spreads, and launching the latest alcoholic energy drinks in nightclubs overseas. And that we’d read about it in the gossip pages until the end of time. But today we have hope that she will one day go away — at least temporarily — when the last season of The Hills ends. Her fashion-design career has been put on hiatus, the New York Post reports. She won’t produce any more seasons of her Lauren Conrad Collection line, and spring and summer deliveries have been canceled. See, good things can happen in a bad economy!
Unfortunately, Conrad is already plotting a fashion comeback. Showrooms in L.A. received messages from Conrad’s people saying, “In light of the economic climate, Lauren has decided to completely rethink her line.” But it doesn’t sound like she wants to make it cheaper, even though plain tank dresses sell for $225, which is probably a big reason Bloomingdale’s and Kitson couldn’t sell it to begin with. “Lauren is going to revamp her line and design with more high-end fabrics … things she couldn’t do the first time around,” a source tells the Post. Someone might want to tell her it’s not the fabrics that are lacking, but what she’s doing with the fabrics. Her spokesperson says she’ll make announcements soon about her plans. We’re guessing the deal for her current line fizzled and someone even more foolish is in talks to help her launch a higher-end one. Hopefully a new deal won’t materialize and she can fade, crying, into obscurity, which is supposedly what she desperately wants anyway.
