Model Adriana Lima is best known for her work for Victoria’s Secret. But, Fashionologie reports, rumor has it that the supermodel might transcend her highly commercial appeal and star in the fall 2009 Givenchy campaign. Her turn down the fall 2009 Givenchy runway was surprise enough. After models trade high fashion for giant wings, glitter runways, $50 bras, and as many shiny accessories as they can wear without looking like they’re wearing actual clothes, designers like Riccardo Tisci don’t often jump to cast those girls in their campaigns. Exceptions exist (hello, Gisele), but generally girls like Adriana aren’t supposed to model pants with six-figure price tags. They’re supposed to model underwear and crocheted bathing suits and Maybelline mascara. Pale, rail-thin Eastern Europeans are supposed to land high-fashion campaigns. Oh wait — casting vivacious, somewhat buxom models would be a good thing for this industry.
