Carla Bruni may not be the foremost political lady on the world’s fashion radar after her wardrobe showdowns with Michelle Obama and Princess Letizia of Spain. But she has something far more powerful than Dior suits in her attention-getting arsenal: provocative nude photos from her modeling days. Yet another is set to hit the auction block in Berlin next Thursday, with bidding starting at about $4,800. This photo is perhaps slightly more provocative, if not as revealing, as the full-frontal nude photo of her sold over a year ago at auction for $91,000 — 22 times what auctioneers thought it would fetch. Entitled “Carla Bruni in Bed,” American photographer Pamela Hansen shot the image in 1994, when Bruni was 26 and dating Mick Jagger. Only ten numbered copies exist. And at 16 feet by 24 feet, it wouldn’t even fit in many New York apartments.
It’s unclear how Carla is feeling about the image. She was reportedly upset over the $91K photo sold right before her first official visit as First Lady to the U.K. But her husband, Nicolas Sarkozy, is just fine with the new shot of her writhing naked in bedsheets. A spokesperson for the Élysée Palace said the French president knows that all the nude photos of his wife in existence are tasteful. Also, surely, an ego booster.
