Best Bet: If the Shoe Fits

Three years ago, Kevin Carney and Brandon Day launched the Generic Man, a label committed to creating simple, extremely well-crafted shoes, with no logos or overt branding. We were thrilled when the duo introduced a ladies’ line this past spring, featuring classic, menswear-inspired styles like gum-soled sneakers and leather wing tips. Our favorite new women’s shoe for fall is the Savant, a lace-up brogue in dove-gray suede with white patent-leather detailing on the upper. The low, stacked wooden heel adds more height than a ballet flat, but is ideal for those days where you’re constantly on your feet. The comfortable shoes are all handcrafted using traditional cobbling techniques, making them sturdy and built to last. They go perfectly with a narrow pant or a pair of black tights. It’s shoes like these that get us excited for the cooler days ahead.

The Generic Man Women’s Savant, $330 at Bird, 220 Smith St., at Butler St.; 718-797-3776.
