Agent Provocateur Showcases $4,900 Spike-Adorned Corsets

Last night at the Soho Grand Hotel, Agent Provocateur staged an intimate runway show to unveil its new high-end line called “Soiree.” Soiree bras cost about $750, while playsuits cost around $2,790. The corset pictured here costs $4,900, and that might not even include safety guards. While many designers and retailers are trying to target the masses with battered 401(k) accounts by lowering prices and giving shoppers extra-special things to choose from, Agent Provocateur has decided to merely give shoppers extra-special underpants (and perhaps whips and nipple tassels). “With this range, the point is to not step back, because there are people for whom money is no object,” Agent Provocateur spokesman Jess Morris told The Wall Street Journal. “These are the people whom we hope to be the customers for this collection.”

Agent Provocateur reps say there is already a celebrity waiting list for the hand-embellished spiked corset, which frankly looks like a cheaper, less dangerous version of the costume Rihanna performed in at the last American Music Awards. But maybe it’s great for when a woman’s, you know, not in the mood?

We might see a glimpse of last night’s runway show on Kelly Cutrone’s new Bravo show, Kell on Earth, which premieres next May. She was flitting around the show with her camera crew. “Actually the cameras are making us better publicists because the girls are being shot all day working,” Kelly told the Journal. We’re sure Whitney Port was lollygagging very diligently.
