Fug Girls: At Badgley, Reality Stars Mingle With … Fran Drescher?

It was a motley celebrity crew gathered this morning at Badgley Mischka. The floor of the Tent felt a bit like the Lido deck of the Love Boat, there were so many seemingly unconnected celebrities milling around, thrown together by circumstance. We can only hope that at least two of them found love after overcoming a misunderstanding and cross our fingers that no one decided to become a jewel thief.

The “child star” role was amply performed by Ugly Betty’s Mark Indelicato, who managed to get to his seat well before the rest of the celebs emerged from backstage and therefore was able to entertain reporters at his leisure instead of being pounced upon like a particularly tasty bit of chum the instant he appeared. As we walked past him, we overheard someone ask him what he liked best about Badgley Mishka. “… The pretty dresses?” he offered after a beat. Sounds accurate enough to us.

Speaking of reporters, it appears that Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel has decided, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, since she was working the show as a correspondent for Access Hollywood. And we do mean “working it.” At one point, she even stood on her seat so that her cameraman could get a better shot of her. That’s commitment to a gig.

Badgley also marked our first encounter with American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, or as we privately think of her, “the one we fast-forward through. After fast-forwarding through Randy.” Kara is tiny, very pretty, and totally disinterested in talking about Paula Abdul. “I haven’t talked to her. I’m sure she’s doing her own thing,” she said dismissively when asked about the Loopy One’s post-Idol career prospects. Clearly, Kara’s unaware of how much fun it can be to announce wholly uninformed speculations about people you barely know. We expected more from her.

Kara wasn’t the only guest hailing from the land of Idol. We also noticed season-four contestant — and Tony-award nominee, a descriptor we never thought we’d find in this particular sentence — Constantine Maroulis. Constantine wandered in like a normal person (rather than from backstage), politely kissed seatmate Bethenny, and then very quietly took his front-row spot, where he spent the duration of the show looking moderately bemused.

Which was approximately our own reaction when we realized that the pretty brunette just a few seats over from Constantine was not, in fact, Lucy Liu, as we’d scribbled in our notes, but was actually … Fran Drescher. You’re welcome, Fran. Whatever you’re doing, you should obviously keep it up.

Rounding out the front row was Shanae Grimes — whom we spied after the show trying to run through Bryant Park but being severely hampered by her supershort, tight pleather skirt — as well as Fashion Week regulars and apparent new besties Kelly Rowland and Kim Kardashian. Those three are hardly exciting and new, but we suppose you can’t have everything.
