Robert Verdi has mixed feelings about the “playful” statement he gave us the other night regarding the fashion world “ignoring gay people”: “I don’t think it was the best forum to open up a dialogue. But I’m glad I put it out there anyway,” he told us at the Laura Smalls presentation yesterday. “A lot of gay men who are in highly visible, powerful positions either called me or sent me an e-mail and said, ‘You’re right.’” He then became distracted by a platter of miniature pigs-in-a-blanket. “I’ve always wanted to have a plateful of wieners. I mean, I’d eat every wiener in New York if I could.”
