Nanette Lepore Hits the Streets With Oonagh Basics Line

What was that word again? “Oonagh”? Well, according to Nylon, the name for the new line of streetwear basics by the distinctively feminine designer Nanette Lepore means “pure” to the Scottish ear. And “pure” these T-shirts, tunics, simple dresses, and minimalist tops are, with little of the embellishment and fanciful textiles that usually keep Lepore’s work off the shoulders of more edgy New Yorkers. A smart move for a down market, Oonagh has a nice balance of loose, smart construction, up-to-date color palettes, and diffusion-line prices. As Nylon suggests, Oonagh — whose aesthetic is a sharp right turn from Lepore’s main line — could open the brand up to a whole new clientele. Just don’t ask us to pronounce its name.
