This seemed destined somehow. One of Britain’s best, Stella McCartney, has made almost as much hay out of her collaborations with Adidas, GapKids, and others as she has off her own label. Meanwhile, Tim Burton’s forthcoming Alice in Wonderland pic has inspired tote bags’ worth of editorials, projects (including one-off couture pieces by Alexander McQueen and others), jewelry by Tom Binns, exhibitions, more editorials, makeup lines, even more jewelry, a show at MoMA, and other stylish tie-ins. It seems like it was only a matter of time until the two trajectories intersected. Now comes word that McCartney has teamed with Disney for an accessories line full of “rabbits, Mad Hatter’s hats and hearts and spades,” just in time for the film’s release. The only drawback seems to be that the collection will be sold out of McCartney’s boutiques. Truth be told, we were rather looking forward to the liminal experience of shopping for Stella McCartney goods in the Times Square Disney store. Oh well.
