Video: Abbey Lee on Crazy Shoes, Being Thin

Model Abbey Lee Kershaw knows perhaps better than any model how dangerous the runway can be. When she fell in Rodarte’s spring 2009 show because of the super-high heels, she tore a ligament in her knee. After that, she fainted in Alexander McQueen’s spring 2009 show because her corset was too tight. She had to take a season off to have knee surgery, and then refused to walk in Alexander McQueen’s spring 2010 show out of fear of the outrageously high heels. She tells Australian television show Today Tonight, “Hopefully [the shoes are] going to come back down soon, because health and safety regulations have to come into play at some point.”

Speaking of health, Lee weighed in on the thin debate: “That’s like asking a bodybuilder how they feel about the pressures to be incredibly muscly. An elite performer is always put under some sort of extreme pressure that the rest of society can argue, might not quite understand.”
