In the coming months and years, you may see new product lines bearing the Christian Lacroix label, but those will not be designed by the man himself. Christian Lacroix has severed all ties with his namesake house, which is currently restructuring and racking up licensing deals after failing to get bought out of bankruptcy. CEO Nicolas Topiol plans to roll out new licensing deals for Christian Lacroix eyewear and sunglasses, stationery, and home textiles. He’s in talks to launch innerwear, childrenswear, and other men’s and women’s accessories. Women’s ready-to-wear may not return until 2012, and the current staff of 30 will probably be cut to around 12.
Meanwhile, Lacroix is busying himself with things like train-worker uniforms, theater costumes, and designing hotels under his own company, XLCX. Too bad he can’t retain rights to his own name.
