Karl Lagerfeld Has Couture Clients Who Buy 26 Couture Looks in Half an Hour

Whatever you did for lunch on Tuesday, if you weren’t at the Mercer Hotel, you did the wrong thing. Karl Lagerfeld was spotted there yesterday morning. As André Leon Talley later blogged, he was the Kaiser’s dining companion the day prior:

Karl Lagerfeld arrived promptly for lunch Tuesday at the Mercer lounge for his usual carpaccio, smoked salmon, and red snapper with grilled vegetables. I hadn’t been privy to Lagerfeld’s witty conversation in two years. Impeccably dressed, he wore skintight Chanel black jeans (that at first glance look like intricate French lace), dark shirt and tie from Hilditch & Key, and an antique set of Suzanne Belperron sapphire and calcédoine pins worn as tie bars.

His attention to detail brings a tear to the eye. It’s what makes his ANTM judging as spectacular as his blogging!

Talley confirms Karl is in town to shoot the fall 2010 Chanel campaign. But what else would he be doing running around downtown with a camera and a model dressed in furry raver boots? In other news, Karl plans to show his cruise collection in St. Tropez in May. Talley also asked about Chanel’s couture clients:

There are still the Americans — Jayne Wrightsman, Marie-Josée Kravis — who have Chanel suits delivered in those great white matte Chanel boxes, but the new clients are women who might order 26 couture looks in half an hour. No names, but they come from the Middle East.

Crap, that is a lot of money. Like, they could probably save Haiti.
