3,200 People Went to Yohji Yamamoto’s Show in Japan

After going bankrupt, then getting bailed out by a private-equity fund, Yohji Yamamoto returned home to Japan to put on a fashion show last night. About 3,200 people turned up to watch the show, held at the stadium from the 1964 Olympic Games. Many Japanese celebrities walked, along with models and Yamamoto’s design team. “This is a kind of compensation for my absence from Japan. I’m sorry I was absent for 20 years,” the designer told WWD. He also reiterated his commitment to high-quality clothing and offered his thoughts on fast fashion. “I don’t think it’s a threat,” he said. “I would say: ‘Let it go. Go to hell.’” So no Target for him, but at least you can buy his stuff on Gilt occasionally.
