temper tantrums

Naomi Campbell Punches Someone When Quizzed About Blood-Diamond Gift

A video is surfacing of a hot-tempered Naomi Campbell blowing up at an ABC producer. The journalist’s crime? Asking the supermodel about an uncut blood diamond that was supposedly given to her as a gift by former Liberian president Charles Taylor, now accused of vicious war crimes.

“I didn’t receive a diamond and I’m not going to speak about that, thank you very much,” Campbell, who was interviewed backstage at her Fashion for Haiti show in New York, tells the producer, before looking completely steamed and giving the cold cheek.

While a publicist eventually gets Campbell out of the uncomfortable interview, a cameraman follows the model and for that, she punches him in the hand and knocks his camera to the floor (see video here).

Oddly enough, actress Mia Farrow was the person who provided authorities with Campbell’s name.

“You don’t forget when a girlfriend tells you she was given a huge diamond in the middle of the night,” Farrow tells ABC news, before explaining that the event happened when she, Campbell, and Taylor visited Nelson Mandela’s South African home in 1997.

“Naomi Campbell came down [for breakfast] and she said [that] during the night some men had knocked at her door and it was representatives of President Charles Taylor and that they had given her a huge diamond,” says Farrow. “That’s what happened and there’s no doubt in my mind. She said she was going to give it to Nelson Mandela’s children’s charities.”

While Farrow, who is now a human-rights activist, urges Campbell to “Step up and do your part,” we’ll have to wait and see if Campbell comes forward.

If she does, Taylor, who is on trial at the Hague, will finally be directly linked to the blood diamonds.
