Tavi Hits 14 Today, Will Be Judging a Fashion-Film Contest

Alas, we now know a little bit about how Tavi, whose fourteenth birthday is today, will be spending her summer vacation.

Obviously, for this irregular teen, summer camp or serving up scoops for paltry wages at Baskin-Robbins is not really an option.

Instead, she’ll be judging a chic fashion-film competition, alongside famously black-clad fashion writer Diane Pernet from a Shaded View on Fashion.

The contest, dubbed A Shaded View on Fashion Film 2010, is hosted by TalentHouse.com and open to all makers of fashion-, beauty-, and style-themed films of varying length. The winner will get to have his or her film screened at what will be the fourth annual a Shaded View on Fashion Film event next year.

So what do filmmakers have to do to get past the discerning eye of Tavi?

“There has to be a strong concept — it can’t just be about looking at how shiny and pretty the clothes and models are because to me that feels like a TV commercial,” Tavi tells British Vogue. “There are some specific aesthetics I am really into, but the most important thing is that they have something to say and meet their goal in projecting a message.”

Submissions must be received by July 15 and will be shortlisted by a public vote from July 20–23. After Tavi and Pernet make their final decision, a winner will be announced August 12.

In other news, Tavi celebrated her birthday on her blog today by posting a naked picture of Maggie Rizer surrounded by balloons from 1998, which was only two years after Tavi was born.

God, we’re old.
